Description
The 2020 Lanzerac Le Général is a masterful Left Bank-style blend, marrying 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 10% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot. Crafted from estate’s finest vineyards, this limited Heritage Range release reveals complex dark fruit and elegant spice.
Le Général stands out for its careful varietal selection and aging that refine the structured tannins and underscore nuances of vanilla and nutmeg. A collector’s red for those seeking power, polish and remarkable ageing potential.
Winemaking:
Each variety is hand-harvested, destemmed and fermented separately. Following malolactic conversion, the components mature in French oak barrels – 40% new – for 20 months. Final blending and gentle fining precede bottling to preserve the wine’s natural vibrancy.
Pairing Suggestions:
Serve alongside herb-crusted rib of beef or braised lamb shoulder with fennel and orange. For dessert, dark chocolate fondant with cocoa sorbet highlights its rich blackcurrant and spice profile.
Tasting Note:
Le Général 2020 presents a fragrant bouquet of cassis, cooked plum and dark berries, followed by layers of dark chocolate, smoke and clove. Full-bodied and gracefully tannic, it finishes with an enduring, savoury spice.
