Description
The Loosen family have farmed Mosel’s slate slopes for over two centuries, with Ernst Loosen shaping the estate into one of Germany’s finest. Their Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard, famed for its blue-slate soils and historic sundial, yields Rieslings of rare finesse. The 2013 Auslese is a benchmark: Auslese means ‘select harvest’, late-picked grapes (some shrivelled and concentrated by ‘noble rot’) chosen for richness and intensity. Pale gold, it shows peach, apricot, honey and blossom with a hint of spice and mature diesel notes. Lush fruit is balanced by slate minerality, offering both immediate pleasure and decades of cellaring potential. A classic Mosel – indulgent yet refined.
