Description
The 2008 Niepoort Colheita is a time capsule of Douro magic, capturing the spirit of a single vintage aged gracefully for over a decade. This tawny port, aged in old 550L barrels, has soaked up the character of its surroundings, transforming into a rich, complex sipper that’s perfect for rounding off a meal or enjoyed with a decadent dessert.
2008 was a year of cool, steady ripening in the Douro, with low yields that gifted the grapes exceptional concentration. Hand-harvested in September and October, the traditional foot-treading method was employed with 100% stems, ensuring the purest extraction of flavours. The fortified wine then embarked on its slow aging journey in seasoned barrels at Niepoort’s cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, developing its unique character.
Each sip is a journey through time, showcasing Niepoort’s dedication to the traditional craft of Port-making. With its rich, nuanced profile, the 2008 Niepoort Colheita is a must-try for any Port lover and a testament to the enduring charm of Douro’s exceptional terroir.
Tasting Note: In the glass, the Colheita glows with a brick-red hue, edged with amber reflections. The nose is inviting, with a light smokiness mingling with notes of dried fruits and a whiff of caramelised sugar. On the palate, it’s a beautiful balance of fresh acidity, dried apricots, and crystallised figs, finishing long and smooth with a mellow, spirit-driven warmth.
