Louis Roederer Collection 246 represents the modern expression of the House’s evolving philosophy — a Champagne designed to reflect each year’s unique character while maintaining the unmistakable signature of Louis Roederer. Inspired by the effects of climate change on the Champagne region, Cellar Master Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon began rethinking the blending approach over a decade ago, creating a collection series that celebrates maturity, balance and complexity.
Collection 246 is built around the 2021 harvest (55%), a challenging vintage that ultimately produced grapes of remarkable freshness and finesse. The blend is complemented by 35% Perpetual Reserve wines, which bring balance and vibrant energy, alongside 10% oak-aged reserve wines matured in large French oak foudres. Chardonnays play a particularly prominent role in this release, contributing elegance, salinity and precision, while Pinot varieties add subtle structure and depth.
Aged in the cellars for nearly four years, this Champagne reveals a luminous golden colour with very fine bubbles. The bouquet opens with aromas of yellow fruits such as mirabelle plum and nectarine alongside candied citrus. Delicate toasted and vanilla notes emerge from the oak ageing, while subtle mineral and shellfish nuances lend complexity. On the palate, it is light and refined with flavours of peach and floral pollen, complemented by chalky freshness and a creamy mousse. The finish is graceful and lingering with hints of smoke and toast from the Perpetual Reserve.
Collection 246 is both vibrant and gastronomic, offering immediate drinking pleasure while also possessing the structure to evolve further with age. Its elegant tension and mineral freshness make it a superb companion to seafood, shellfish and refined cuisine
