Crafted in the foothills of the Andes, the 2025 Bodegas Sottano Malbec embodies everything that has made Argentina’s signature grape world-renowned. This is a wine of depth, vibrancy, and elegance, bringing together fruit from the prestigious sub-regions of Vistaflores in Tunuyán and Perdriel in Luján de Cuyo. The result is a bottle that reflects both place and precision.
The cool nights and sun-drenched days of Mendoza allow the grapes to develop rich, ripe fruit flavours, while careful vinification ensures balance and freshness, offering exceptional value for a Malbec of this quality.
Winemaking: The grapes are grown on vertical trellis systems at low yields of around 9 tonnes per hectare, ensuring concentrated fruit. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using selected yeasts, with a three-day cold soak followed by 15 days of maceration to extract colour, flavour, and texture. Ageing for eight months in oak barrels brings subtle layers of vanilla and chocolate, harmonising beautifully with the fruit purity.
Pairing Suggestions: This Malbec is wonderfully versatile at the table. For a vegetarian option, try it with roasted aubergine, lentil stews, or mushroom risotto, where the wine’s earthy depth complements the dish. For meat lovers, it is a natural partner to grilled ribeye, slow-cooked lamb shanks, or chargrilled chorizo, enhancing smoky, savoury flavours.
Tasting Note: Deep ruby with violet hues, the nose is packed with ripe damson, raspberries, and violets, lifted by hints of pencil lead. On the palate, it offers a smooth yet firm structure with velvety tannins, balanced by freshness. Subtle notes of chocolate and vanilla from oak ageing round out a lingering, elegant finish.
